OpenAI says Daybreak combines Trusted Access for Cyber, Codex Security, GPT-5.5-Cyber, security partners, and Patch the Planet. It also says Codex Security has scanned more than 30 million commits across more than 30,000 codebases since its March research preview, with human reviewers marking more than 70,000 findings as fixed.

Ask vendors to show:

  • whether findings export to your vulnerability management system;
  • whether a human reviewer confirms severity before maintainers see the report;
  • which model route is being used, public ChatGPT, Codex Security, Trusted Access for Cyber, or GPT-5.5-Cyber;
  • whether advanced cyber capability is public, partner mediated, or restricted to approved defenders.

The biggest buying mistake is counting AI-generated findings as progress. A team that adds 400 reports and lands no safe fixes has made the maintainer problem worse.

What to do

If you run a security team, test any AI security product on one real backlog. Score it on valid findings, false positives, patches merged, test evidence, and time saved by maintainers.

If you maintain open-source infrastructure, Patch the Planet may be useful, but do not let outside tooling bypass your disclosure rules. Keep project owners in control of what lands.

If you use Claude Code, Claude, Codex, or another coding agent for security work, separate normal coding help from higher-risk exploit and remediation workflows. The model route, permission set, logging, and review process should be explicit.
