Vercel Confirms Security Breach; Attacker Claims Source Code, API Keys, Employee Data

BleepingComputer reports the attacker discussed a $2 million ransom with Vercel over Telegram. BleepingComputer notes individuals linked to the actual ShinyHunters extortion gang have denied involvement, raising the possibility of an impersonator.

Authenticity of the leaked data could not be independently verified at time of reporting.

Vercel’s response

Vercel’s public statement says:

  • Unauthorized access was to certain internal systems, not customer services
  • A limited subset of customers was affected
  • Incident response experts and law enforcement are involved
  • Customers should review environment variables, use the sensitive-env-var feature, and rotate secrets if necessary

Vercel has not publicly confirmed what specific data was exfiltrated, whether customer deployments are at risk, or details on ransom negotiations.
