Gemini is the best substitute for Google Workspace, Search, Android, and NotebookLM-heavy workflows. Perplexity is the best substitute when cited web research matters more than open-ended chat.
Claude is the cleanest first test when the job is writing, analysis, code review, or long-document work. Anthropic’s current docs make model availability the big caveat: Fable 5 and Mythos 5 access is suspended after a June 12 government directive, while Opus 4.8 remains the stable high-end Opus-tier route. Claude Code also keeps Claude relevant for developers, but model access, usage limits, and quality notes should be verified before standardizing a team on it.
Gemini is the practical choice for people already living in Search, Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Drive, NotebookLM, and Android. Google AI plan and NotebookLM upgrade docs make the bundle stronger for source packets, student or work documents, and Google-native productivity.
